For those of you unaware, one of the biggest earthquakes of last 300 years in the United States happened here in the heartland in 1811. Known as the New Madrid quake it is named after the famous fault line located in southern Illinois that spawned it. It was so powerful it changed the course of the mighty Mississippi River and fissures in the earth only seen from the air can still be seen hundreds of years later
