We read this and realize how truly lucky we were to have grown up in the last century. Besides the fact our escapades remain cloaked in “folklore” and social media non existent we also benefitted by no cell phones that can record your EVERY word and deed. In addition the STDs weren’t fatal like they are now and the drugs didn’t kill you unless in major overdose quantities. Reading this makes us sigh in relief.

We read this and it REALLY RESONATED with us. Why? As tragic as the final years of co founder of the Eagles Randy Meisner’s life were, we personally find it appalling that aside from a timeless musical legacy left behind, we found it crass to see him reduced to a cumulative net worth piece itemizing personal possessions in the final tally. In death the man, albeit a public figure, is reduced to how many cars or watches he owned in an impersonal listing of assets left behind which to us reflects the EXTREME lopsided income disparities in our society that fuels the macabre need for the public to know what someone has or their net worth as if that is some measure of success in the end. The message to us all is a massive net worth in the end is NO MEASURE of success, rather the legacy left behind is. And the irony is much of that legacy should be a gift, given free from the heart in acts of kindness or benevolence NOT a brazen hoarding of assets that in the end mean nothing to the deceased. The oxymoron of life. We had a mentor who never learned that lesson after achieving great wealth but we sure did.
