Highland Park Illinois is a good area in metro Chicago, a wealthy northern suburb that achieved some tragic notoriety 1 year ago from last July 4th when a whacked local committed a massacre during a 4th of July parade in the downtown area. Prior to that, the community had little crime but to post this today the immediate reaction was how out of character it was.RIP to the 16 yr old and sincere condolences to his family.

Here is the Chicago weekend rundown of events from Block Club Chicago. To us it reminds of a somber memory when we were kids of the decades old Bud Billiken parade on the South Side celebrating it’s 94th year this year. That parade is happening today Aug 12th and it always signaled the beginning of the end of summer to us because school would inevitably start within a few weeks of the event. Funny how that memory lingers.
