In a vivid visual reminder to the world that Chicago IS the home of the Blues, here is a visual of the Rolling Stones visiting Chess Records on Michigan Ave in 1964 and photographed on the street in front. They even recorded a song “2120 South Michigan Avenue” which is an original instrumental by the Rolling Stones, recorded for their second EP Five by Five. It was also released on their second US album 12 X 5 in 1964. Composer credit goes to Nanker Phelge, a deceiving title that gives credit equally to all members of the band without naming them. Principal Marshall Chess went on to be a big part of the Stones 1972 US tour as described in the exceptional book chronicling the inside tour scuttlebutt STP by Robert Greenfield.The Stones also spent some time at the Playboy mansion on N State Parkway during the 1972 tour cementing their love of our city 🙂
