Aurora Police Release Video, Seek Public’s Help Identifying Vehicle in Hit-and-Run Investigation

Aurora, Illinois – The Aurora Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a pedestrian last month.

At approximately 10:13 p.m. on June 24, Aurora Police officers responded to the 100 block of Ridgeway Avenue for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.

The investigation indicates the pedestrian was lying in the roadway on Ridgeway Avenue when an SUV traveling eastbound struck him and continued from the scene. A witness reported seeing the vehicle continue eastbound on Ridgeway Avenue before turning southbound onto Lake Street. Officers located the pedestrian at the scene with significant injuries, and he was transported by Aurora Fire Department paramedics to a local hospital for treatment. He has since been released from the hospital and continues to recover from his injuries.

As part of the ongoing investigation, officers canvassed the surrounding area and obtained surveillance video from several locations. Investigators reviewed the available evidence and followed up on leads but have not yet identified the SUV.

The Aurora Police Traffic Division is now turning to the public for additional assistance and is releasing a surveillance video showing the SUV believed to have been involved in the crash traveling eastbound on Ridgeway Avenue moments before the collision. Anyone who recognizes the vehicle, has information about its driver, or has information that could assist with the investigation is urged to contact Traffic Investigator Alex Lopez at LopezA@aurora.il.us.
