“Young Americans, people of color, and people without college degrees increasingly get their information about the world from nontraditional sources … Echelon found that 58 percent of voters have not paid for any news in the last year. About 40 percent of voters say they pay for a cable or streaming service that includes a news channel. But the number of people paying to read journalism directly is shrinking to a tiny minority. Only 12 percent of voters said they have paid to subscribe to one or more news sources in the last year.”
