Although the Battle of Midway in early June 1942 signified the beginning of the end of the “battleship” as a viable naval asset as aircraft carriers took charge from then on, this magnificent example of American naval power still commands awe. One of only 4 super battleships built, it’s sister ships were the Missouri, the Iowa and the Wisconsin.
