We were fortunate enough to be of age when our Chicago Bears played the magical season of 1985-6. We went to both of the freezing cold Soldier Field playoff games against the New York Giants AND the LA Rams because, of course, we had home field advantage.
It was the last time we remember drinking Rock and Rye for no other reason than to stay warm and we fondly remember the experiences to this day.
One of the horrific sidebars to that Bears team as the years went by was the tragedy that followed some of the players. From suicide to dementia issues, to all manner of debilitating physical ailments many on that team for the ages suffered and are suffering almost 40 years later.
Steve McMichael was a brutal defensive tackle and his stats over his career certainly were Hall of fame caliber. But now he is afflicted with ALS and is completely bed ridden so we are praying he gets in while he is still here to savor it.
