Sad that business has now become the undeniable canary in the coal mine in regards to the escalating urban decay in America. The shutting down of huge stores here proof positive city is dying. Note the “hoods” are ALL in bad areas , you never see these stores closing in the good areas. These “hoods’ are so crime infested on so many levels it makes no fiscal sense to sell retail there.(Reference Whole Foods flagship in San Francisco CA closing for same reasons costing company millions ) Residents now forced to travel to get certain items and each time an anchor retail store leaves, the ‘hood’ suffers on many social and financial levels, not least of which is tax revenues to local and state municipalities which in turn reduces civic investment in maintenance of the community and exacerbates the downward spiral.
